This was done for the 50th Anniversary issue of “Prairies North” magazine. The entire issue being a ‘bucket list’ of 50 things to do in Saskatchewan before you die.

Posted in Uncategorized on November 22, 2010 by darrylwfunkRecently, one of the illustrators belonging to the Canada West chapter of the Society of Chilren’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI), started an illustration blog with a new theme every month. This was my contribution for the month of November. You can see my work and that of other incredibly talented artists at: http://gobananasillustration.blogspot.com/
Who Needs Another Cup?
Posted in Uncategorized on November 22, 2010 by darrylwfunkI belong to the Central Fraser Valley Graphic Guild here in Abbotsford. Recently they did a group show with the theme, “The Joy of Drinking” and asked me to do a piece last minute. Since coffee is my vice and I illustrate for children, I figured that even story book animals take a 15 once in a while!

Posted in Personal Work on November 3, 2009 by darrylwfunkThis is probably the funnest piece I’ve done yet. There’s a self-portrait that Maurice Sendak did of himself and his hero, Mickey Mouse. Since his most famous book “Where the Wild Things Are” was the book that inspired me to become an artist, I figured it only made sense to do a self-portrait as a Wild Thing!
Invaders
Posted in Personal Work on October 27, 2009 by darrylwfunkRecently I underwent open heart surgery because of a rare condtion I have called “Takayasu’s Arteritis” which causes inflammation in the main arteries leading off of the aortic arch. The arteries leading to my arms had become completely blocked, forcing the blood to go through my carotid arteries (which were also narrowed) into my brain before getting to my arms. This put me at a high risk for a stroke as well as losing strength in both of my arms. This is the first drawing I did 2 weeks after the surgery. My arms are still a little shaky, but it is slowly coming back. I’ve always been a fan of the Invaders from Marvel Comics and this happened to be the first thing that popped into my head while convalescing.
